 Axle

Axle has been part of the Dreamcatcher program since he was three months old. He has grown into a wonderful therapeutic alliance. We raised him to help people, putting him through intensive sensitivity training. He loved every minute of it and enjoys his job immensely. He has the kindest eyes and seems to have a sixth sense about when people are sad. He will follow them, put his head in their laps and lick their hands to try and help them feel better. He loves everyone and forgives immediately if someone lashes out at him in anger.

When Axle was only three years old, his best friend, Brandy, a little collie, passed away. This left Axle devastated. Axle mourned Brandy for 5 days and nights howling and whining. He was the saddest dog. After 5 days, Eileen and Dale decided that Axle needed a new friend and went on the search. Very soon they came across a young black lab named Thor who was being given away by his owners. Soon Axle and Thor became the best of friends. Axle, the elder brother always looking out for Thor and keeping him inline.

Shortly after Thorpuppy arrived, Axle blew is left back knee while playing with Thor relentlessly. Axle required surgery and recovered, however he walks with a limp and has developed serve arthritis in both back legs. Axle has to take it easy and not play too hard.

Axle has an addiction to eating rocks. In the last couple of years, Axle has had to have 3 major surgeries to remove rocks from his intestines. During the second surgery, Axle had to have part of his intestine removed. As a result, Axle must always wear a muzzle when outside to prevent him from swallowing any more rocks!

Axle's favorite things are people, treats, his adopted brother Thor, swimming, playing, and his red shirt. He also loves his tummy rubbed and going for walks. He is a kind-hearted soul and has helped many to learn to love in a safe and caring way. Axle is an amazing dog and an amazing co-therapist.
